Today is the start of Black History Month and Femme Fatale is dedicating this month's posts to the African American contributors to the fashion industry, from models to creative directors. The right way to start it off is with one of the most recognizable faces of the modeling world, Tyra Banks. She was the first black model to cover GQ Magazine, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue Magazine, and Victoria’s Secret Catalog. She was also one of the first black models to grace the VS annual runway show. Since her retirement to the catwalk in 2005, she has a popular show, America's Next Top Model and completed a five year run on prime time t.v. with the Tyra Show. She went from supermodel to role model in her career.
